Overberg Towns - Part 2

Information on some of the towns found in the Overberg Region

BETTY’S BAY

Betty's Bay is a coastal town located between Kleinmond and Pringle Bay.  This cute little town is known for its walks, scenery and fishing.  The Harold Porter National Botanical Garden is a beautifully preserved piece of land which can be visited all year round, and is popular with visitors.  Sitting pretty beneath the Kogelberg Mountains Betty’s Bay is filled with adventure activities from sandboarding to mountain biking, keeping the whole family entertained.

BONNIEVALE

Bonnievale is a small country village situated on the banks of the Breede River surrounded by the Langeberge and Riversonderend Mountains.  Visitors flock here to sample cheese, wine and take in the beautiful scenery of river and mountains.  History goes, that one man fought to tame the wild Breede River by building a water channel to supply the lands with enough water for sustainable farming.  This is still in operation today and why the village takes pride in the centre of all the vineyards. With such a unique history Bonnievale is truly a special place.

BOT RIVER

Bot River is a small town at the base of the Houw Hoek Mountains.  Named after the river that meanders through it, Bot River is filled with fertile valleys covered in Fynbos and surrounded by glowing wheat fields.  The Bot River wetlands are home to thousands of water birds and it is here that South Africa’s only herd of wild horses roam in a wetland environment.  Activities abound in this small town from hiking and horse riding to quad bikes and fishing.

CALEDON

Caledon is known to be one of the centres of wheat production in Overberg and is also the best place to spot flocks of Blue Crane.  Known for its hot springs and flora, Caledon is a hive of activity in holiday season.  The historical hot water springs on the slopes of the Klein Swartberg Mountains form the hot mineral baths at the stylish Caledon Hotel and Spa today.  Home to the annual wildflower festival, Caledon is definitely not a town to be missed when touring through Overberg.
