Grabouw is situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, some 65 km south-east of Cape Town along the N2 highway. As the commercial centre for the Elgin Valley Grabouw can be a hive of activity. There are many farm stalls selling fresh produce from the area - a delicious treat for travellers.
Grabouw will delight visitors with its beautiful setting alongside the Palmiet River. Bordered by the Kogelberg Biosphere and Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, Grabouw is worth the visit. The fynbos in the region is one of the most diverse in the country.
The Elgin Valley is the single largest export fruit producing area in Southern Africa and is one of the most scenic farming areas in South Africa.
Grabouw has a variety of accommodation options available from Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfasts to Self-catering units. There is wine and cider tasting on the surrounding farms and several routes for exploring the mountains begin from the town. The area offers fantastic hiking and biking trails, perfect for those that love the outdoors. The birdlife is prolific in Grabouw - a twitchers delight!
Within the town, the Elgin Apple Museum is one of the oldest remaining buildings in the area. The Museum depicts the history of the fruit industry in the region.
